A Masters in Nursing degree, also known as a Master of Science in Nursing or MSN, gives current registered nurses (RN) the opportunity to advance their careers and become leaders in the nursing field. RNs who are looking to become APRNs (advanced practice registered nurses) in a specific field can earn their masters in nursing in adult/gerontology, psychiatric mental health nursing, pediatric nursing, and acute or primary care nursing.

The University of Alabama Accredited by SACS	The Capstone College of Nursing at The University of Alabama offers a MSN program with four concentrations to choose from: Case Management, Clinical Nurse Leader, Nurse Administrator, and Nurse Practitioner. The Univeristy of Arizona Accredited by HLC	The University of Arizona’s College of Nursing offers two options for earning an MSN degree: Masters Entry to the Profession of Nursing (MEPN) and Master of Science in Nursing Clinical Systems Leadership (RN to MSN). This program is designed for RNs who hold a BSN degree and is accredited by the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education. Students can choose from two specializations: Advanced Clinical/Educator and School Nurse.
San Diego State University Accredited by WASC	San Diego State University’s School of Nursing offers a Master of Science in Nursing program that requires a minimum of 36 units. The program is designed for either full- or part-time study with a variety of specializations to choose from, including Advanced Practice Nursing of Adults and the Elderly, Community Health Nursing: School Nursing Education, Nursing Leadership in Health Care Systems, and Women’s Health and Midwifery. The program is accredited by the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education.
San Jose State University Accredited by WASC	The Valley Foundation School of Nursing at San Jose State University offers two options for students interesting in pursuing an MSN degree: a BSN to MSN and an RN to MSN bridge. The program is accredited by the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education and prepares students for such roles as Nurse Educator, Nurse Administrator, and Nurse Informaticist.
University of California, Irvine Accredited by WASC	The University of California, Irvine offers an MSN degree in two different areas of specialization: Family Nurse Practitioner and Adult-Gerontological Nurse Practitioner. One option is the Master’s Entry Program in Nursing (MEPN), designed to offer graduates without a BSN direct entry into an accelerated master’s degree program. University of San Fransicso Accredited by WASC	The School of Nursing at University of California, San Francisco offers a few different paths for MSN degree seekers: a Direct Entry pathway, an ADN/RN to MSN, and a BSN to MSN. The Direct Entry program is for students who hold a non-nursing degree. Emory University Accredited by SACS	Emory University’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing offers a few different options for earning a Master of Science in Nursing degree. While an MSN degree is the most common master’s degree in nursing, there are other types of programs available too:

• RN to MSN – a bridge program designed for registered nurses pursuing an MSN
• BSN to MSN – a bridge program designed for student who already hold a bachelor of science in nursing
• ADN to MSN – a bridge program where students earn both their BSN and MSN
• MSN/MBA – a dual major for students interested in earning their Master of Business Administration as well
• MSN/MPH – a dual major for students interested in earning their Master of Public Health as well
