Ep 26: Sociology Programs with Dr. Patricia Maloney
We’re back with another edition of the YesCollege podcast, and this week we’re covering Sociology programs! Scott was able to chat with Dr. Patricia Maloney, assistant professor in the Texas Tech department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work or SASW.
Dr. Maloney offered up fantastic insight on the field of sociology, including the educational and professional paths sociology students often follow. Plus she had excellent tips and advice for anyone considering getting a degree in the field!

This episode of the YesCollege Podcast is all about how to achieve those goals and be considered a “college success story.” Our guest who helps Scott break this all down is Kyle Winey, author of HACKiversity a book all about achieving more with less effort in college.
Kyle had a rude awakening when he thought he’d done everything right but found himself stuck at the tail end of his college career. Meanwhile, one of his Fraternity brothers (who he’d always thought of as a bit of a slacker had a job offer all lined up). The lessons he learned from that, and his insight into what it takes to succeed in college these days are invaluable to any student!
Ep 23: Student Housing with Doug Brown of COCM
It’s time for a new episode of the YesCollege Podcast! The topic this week is one that is so important for students to consider… student housing. Scott was joined by Doug Brown, CEO of Capstone On-Campus Management, or COCM. COCM provides student housing management and consulting services for non-profit owners (universities) – the majority of which are located directly on campuses.
Doug has spent a lot of time helping universities manage and improve their on-campus housing, and so has great advice for students evaluating their options. Living on campus can be a tremendous benefit, but it isn’t a cheap or easy decision. Listen in to learn what to look for (if you’re a student), and how to foster success with student housing (if you’re a university administrator)!

Joining Scott to discuss this are two experts from uAspire, a non-profit organization that works to help all young people reach their higher education goals. Bob Giannino serves as uAspire’s CEO, while Allie Negron is a College Affordability Advisor.
Both of their experiences with college inspired them to work on educating current and potential students on the many ins and outs of attending and paying for college. We’ve spent a lot of time talking about different degree programs, but on this episode it’s time to dive into actually paying for college. Scott was joined by the brilliant Jocelyn Paonita Pearson, founder of The Scholarship System, a site all about helping students (and families) find and get college scholarships.
Jocelyn was able to get through college debt-free by financing her education primarily with scholarships (over 6 figures of them)! After spending time working as a financial analyst post graduation, she realized how many people kept asking how she’d gotten so many scholarships. Ever since starting the Scholarship System, Jocelyn has been educating her followers on how to finance college the way she did.
