How does the world work? While we may not be able to answer that question for you, studying economics can certainly help you learn more about the resources we have on a local/specific (micro) and global/general (macro) level, and how policies affect who gets what and why.
Essentially, economics is a broad social science that looks at how we have handled and distributed resources, like wealth, in the past, how we are currently dealing with the resources we have, and what the state of our future resources might look like based on the decisions made today.
