There’s a lot of information available online, but not all of it can be trusted. Government websites are excellent resources for students to find accurate information and discover a variety education and career opportunities.

I wrote a post some time ago with Five .Gov Websites to Bookmark for College containing websites about college affordability like grants, scholarships, and filing your FAFSA. This is part two, with a short list of government websites to help you find and manage career opportunities while you’re still in school.

  1. USAJobs – Whether you’re still in high school or are all the way into graduate school, USAJobs allows you to search for internships all over the country.
  2. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) – This site has several scholarships and internships available for undergraduate students pursuing a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) related degree.
  3. Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Exchange Program – Thinking of studying abroad? This site will help you find exchange programs, give you tips on how to set up travel and living arrangements, and more.
  4. Tax Information for Students – If you plan on having a job or internship, getting a scholarship, or making loan payments, you will need to know how to how to file your taxes correctly, and what you can deduct to get the most money back from your taxes. They have a variety of other resources on their site to help you answer your questions.
  5. NASA – That’s right, NASA has a list of programs and projects geared to students at every educational level. They even have internships and scholarships that are available to a wide variety of students.

You don’t have to (and shouldn’t) wait to until you graduate to build your resume. These resources will give you a great place to start your search for an internship, and help you pay for college with scholarship opportunities too. Remember to poke around YesCollege for other college resources too!
